Dawson Family

12.26.09

It’s funny to me how small a world it is.

8th Grade. Amanda and I met and became friends. Somewhere along the line she started dating Tripp Dawson (who I didn’t think was near good enough for her at the time…but then nobody ever is right? :-) ) Our friendship lasted through 10th grade when I moved to another school, but then we didn’t really see each other much after that. Fast forward almost 10 years…my mom is a teacher at another local elementary school and tells me that they’ve hired a new Kindergarten teacher—Amanda Dawson.

Of course she’s just as beautiful as she was in high school, and now has two beautiful daughters as well. Oh, and Tripp turned out to be a pretty great husband (and father!) after all. :-)

Kent Family

12.26.09

No, I didn’t grow up on a farm. I’ve never milked a cow. I don’t fish, hunt, or otherwise kill any other vertebrates (but if you have an exoskeleton and are trespassing in my home, I WILL take you down. …or make Jake do it. Be warned.) I don’t watch Nascar OR wrestling, and I don’t even like most country music. I actually grew up right in the center of town. A very small town, mind you, but still right in the center of it. I’ve lived in one of the largest cities in the Southeast for the last 2 and half years. Not on the edges of it, either…we’re definitely inner city.

That being said, I really think I’m a country girl at heart. And pictures like these make me smile.

These were from a quick mini-session I did for this family to choose a Christmas card picture, but there are a few more of the two boys here, and the youngest girl here (big sister was in softball allstars at the time). They really are a beautiful family.

Hawsey Family…again. :-)

12.24.09

(Soooo…this post is from about a month ago, but I’m just now getting it up. Have I mentioned that life’s been a little crazy? Just consider this cuteness to be my Christmas present to you. :-) )

Brook and Jeremy hold a special place in my heart because they were some of the first people to really take notice of my photography and ask me to take their pictures. They were the first couple I photographed, the first maternity session, and the first baby. Now that Gabrielle is a few months older, they asked me to come back and do a full family session.

It’s been a few months since we’ve seen them, and the last time we saw Gabrielle she was still in that newborn, all-I-do-is-sleep-and-eat kinda stage. When we met them at their house for this family session, Jeremy answered the door and led us to the nursery where Brook and Gabrielle were getting ready. As we walked toward the door of Gabrielle’s room, she popped her little head up over the crib and gave us the biggest, cutest grin. To which we both said, “awwwww…” It’s crazy how fast kids grow when you aren’t around to see it happening. :-)

I’m tiling a bathroom this morning, and then headed out to the beginning of the various annual Christmas family gatherings starting with lunch today. Yay! I hope all of you have a very wonderful, very merry Christmas. :-)

Rachel & Jimmy (& Nick & Eve)

12.09.09

I have had a dream of doing a shoot with dogs for a while now. Yes, I take lots of pictures of Sam, and no, you don’t get to see most of them. (I try not to be the obnoxious dog-owner…it’s in preparation for not being the obnoxious mother…not that we have any news on that front…don’t freak out or anything.) Anyway, I’ve been wanting someone ELSE to come to me and say, “Diana, we have this dog that we love so much, and we want you to take pictures of us WITH the dog, please.” And since they’re being so polite with the “please” and everything, I would of course say yes. Naturally.

But that hasn’t happened yet. Oh wait, I mean that HADN’T happened–until about 2 weeks ago. I got an email from Rachel asking if I had time to do a family session before Christmas. Her family consists of her, Jimmy (her husband), and….drumroll…their two dogs! OF COURSE, I said yes (even though I probably–no, make that definitely–already had too much on my plate. It was a blast, and I’m so glad we were able to make it work. Not only was it a realization of dream of doing a “dog” session, but as luck would have it, Rachel and Jimmy were tons of fun, too. Anybody else want some pictures with their dog(s)? Cause I’m totally up for doing this again. :-)

Ah…the holidays…

12.07.09

I’m not dead. Just buried under a to-do list a mile long. I’m working through editing several family sessions for Christmas, designing a new look (along with Jake) for the Grace website, packing and moving back to Alabama, training my replacement at my other job, applying to grad school, AND participating in the regular holiday rush that begins with Thanksgiving and doesn’t end till New Years. I’m confident I’ll get it all done. I don’t really have a choice. :-) So anyway, sometime in the next week or so I’ll be posting from a few of the recent sessions I’ve done…assuming I make it through today. ;-) And just because blogs with pictures are always more fun, here’s one from my session on the farm with one of my favorite families to photograph.

5 years ago today.

11.22.09

In New Orleans. With no professional photographer present (kudos to my sister-in-law for the few pictures we have). If I had it do over again, would I change anything? Not even the smallest detail. That day was perfect. :-)

I’m even happier and more in love today than I was the day I married you, Jake. Thank you for being so much more than I deserve.
