Just for fun…

01.10.10

A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to participate in a group shoot with several other photographers who were in New Orleans for a conference. The amazingly talented Mark Eric organized the whole thing and arranged for some models (read: soon to be brides with no prior modeling experience) and make-up artists. It was a bit overwhelming at times with so many professional photographers out there doing their thing, but I really enjoyed it and I learned a lot about how different people interact with their models/clients. I was a bit timid in the midst of so much talent, but I was able to grab a few shots that make me happy. I’ll share those with you here. Have I mentioned that these people are not professional models? They were fabulous!

Dale Maternity

01.09.10

I’ve been a little slack about getting things blogged over the holidays. I had so many things that I was trying to get done so that people could get their pictures ordered for Christmas, and then I was moving, and then I was dealing with life without a working bathroom, and then…well, needless to say, blogging has unfortunately gotten pushed aside for a bit.

I’m getting back on track, though.

These are a few pictures I took of a very dear friend of mine (also a photographer) and her family one afternoon. I won’t tell you how old her baby is now…I’m a little embarrassed that I’m just now blogging these. Suffice it to say that the pregnancy finished well, and baby Mia is is a healthy, happy “several-week-old” now. ;-)

The White Family

01.08.10

So many things I love about these pictures…the beautiful mother, the big brother who looks out for his baby brother, the baby brother who obviously loves his big brother, the house, and oh-my-gosh the LIGHT! First of all, the beautiful mother…

And then the baby brother (who couldn’t quite decide whether or not he liked the idea of me being around)…

And finally the big brother…

And when little brother got upset, guess who was the one to cheer him up…

I am in love with this picture…

I think I’m even more in love with these…

Soooo, while we’re walking around taking pictures, Mandy (mom) mentions to me that she bribed her older son to participate in this picture-taking excursion by promising him that he could have his picture taken with his new Christmas present…

Not to worry. It’s just a BB gun. He insisted that you weren’t supposed to smile while taking a picture with a gun, and he did give it his best effort, but there’s just something about trying NOT to smile that seems to guarantee that you WILL smile…

Dawson Family

12.26.09

It’s funny to me how small a world it is.

8th Grade. Amanda and I met and became friends. Somewhere along the line she started dating Tripp Dawson (who I didn’t think was near good enough for her at the time…but then nobody ever is right? :-) ) Our friendship lasted through 10th grade when I moved to another school, but then we didn’t really see each other much after that. Fast forward almost 10 years…my mom is a teacher at another local elementary school and tells me that they’ve hired a new Kindergarten teacher—Amanda Dawson.

Of course she’s just as beautiful as she was in high school, and now has two beautiful daughters as well. Oh, and Tripp turned out to be a pretty great husband (and father!) after all. :-)

Kent Family

12.26.09

No, I didn’t grow up on a farm. I’ve never milked a cow. I don’t fish, hunt, or otherwise kill any other vertebrates (but if you have an exoskeleton and are trespassing in my home, I WILL take you down. …or make Jake do it. Be warned.) I don’t watch Nascar OR wrestling, and I don’t even like most country music. I actually grew up right in the center of town. A very small town, mind you, but still right in the center of it. I’ve lived in one of the largest cities in the Southeast for the last 2 and half years. Not on the edges of it, either…we’re definitely inner city.

That being said, I really think I’m a country girl at heart. And pictures like these make me smile.

These were from a quick mini-session I did for this family to choose a Christmas card picture, but there are a few more of the two boys here, and the youngest girl here (big sister was in softball allstars at the time). They really are a beautiful family.

Hawsey Family…again. :-)

12.24.09

(Soooo…this post is from about a month ago, but I’m just now getting it up. Have I mentioned that life’s been a little crazy? Just consider this cuteness to be my Christmas present to you. :-) )

Brook and Jeremy hold a special place in my heart because they were some of the first people to really take notice of my photography and ask me to take their pictures. They were the first couple I photographed, the first maternity session, and the first baby. Now that Gabrielle is a few months older, they asked me to come back and do a full family session.

It’s been a few months since we’ve seen them, and the last time we saw Gabrielle she was still in that newborn, all-I-do-is-sleep-and-eat kinda stage. When we met them at their house for this family session, Jeremy answered the door and led us to the nursery where Brook and Gabrielle were getting ready. As we walked toward the door of Gabrielle’s room, she popped her little head up over the crib and gave us the biggest, cutest grin. To which we both said, “awwwww…” It’s crazy how fast kids grow when you aren’t around to see it happening. :-)

I’m tiling a bathroom this morning, and then headed out to the beginning of the various annual Christmas family gatherings starting with lunch today. Yay! I hope all of you have a very wonderful, very merry Christmas. :-)
